ITC ECF is committed to offering Indian customers the finest products that are in conformance with international standards. The Company's Paperboards and Specialty Papers Division has once again blazed a pioneering trail by being the first, in India, to manufacture Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) Pulp, Paperboards and Specialty Papers.

Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) products contain levels of dioxins less that one part per trillion. Dioxins, form part of the liquid effluent from the paper mill and find their way into rivers, lakes and other water bodies affecting aquatic life, besides being carcinogenic. The European Community endorses ECF pulping as the Best Available Technology. It also complies with the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Cluster Rules of the USA.

ECF Paperboards is, internationally, a preferred packaging material for food products as it ensures health and hygiene. In 2002 ITC Ltd., at its Bhadrachalam plant, commissioned India's only Elemental Chlorine Free pulp mill with a capacity of 100,000 tonnes a year. The unit is ISO 9002:2000 series accredited. The unit is also ISO 14001 certified for Environment Management Systems.
